Cloutman Residence

Built in Chestertown NY, on Friends Lake. The Cloutmans wanted a raised hearth and a mantle that they could reach from the floor.

The stone that we used on this fireplace was provided by Adirondack Natural Stone in Whitehall NY.  As you can see the stones have a quiet deep colour to them which makes the angles of the fireplace stand out a lot more.  It also makes for a more dramatic effect upon walking into the room and is certainly the focus point for the room that it is in.

The design of this fireplace was a bit different from normal as the clients wanted a raised hearth and a mantle that they could reach from the floor.  Because of the high openings of the rumford style of fireplace that we was using we decided to split the mantle into three pieces with the two lower mantles acting as caps for the ‘pillars’ on each side of the firebox.
