Cihi Residence
The Cihi residence has two fireplaces: a nine foot wide fireplace in the Great Room, and a much smaller four foot wide fireplace in the Poker Room. The Great Room fireplace has a 5 foot wide firebox and the keystone protrudes out about 2 1/2 inches. The rest of the fireplace is straight up to about 23 feet overall. As you can see in the picture, Guy Cihi likes to climb things! He wanted plenty of room to move around as he goes up which is why the stack doesn't taper. The stone is a natural landscape stone, quarried in Fort Anne NY and sold by North Country Stone. The Cihi's liked the natural brown color of the stone. The blue colors are the split faces of the same stone. The Poker Room fireplace has a two foot square firebox opening, formed from 3 slabs of stone. These 3 pieces, along with the hearth, were supplied by Granite Mountain Stone in Au Sable Forks, NY. We also had "2001" sandblasted into the top stone. An old hand-hewn beam was used for the mantle. On the outside the stack rises quite high to ensure a good draft. We used the same quarried granite on the smaller fireplace.
