Adirondack Rustics Gallery

This fireplace is located in the Adirondack Rusitcs Gallery in Schroon Lake, owned by my brother Barry Gregson. The gallery was an old restaurant he renovated as a showplace for his furniture. This was a fun job since my brother is the one who really got me started in stonework; he was a mason before he began building furniture full time.

This stone is from a gravel bank, so it has a very round, smooth texture because it was protected from the sun. The stones are a full 8 to 12 inches deep which allow for very deep joints. When you're putting round stones together you can wind up with large cement joints. By using large stones, we are able to rake the joints back deeply and have less cement showing. The extra wide hearthcreates a nice stable "footprint" for the fireplace.
